“It’s not the destination, it’s the journey – Ralph Waldo Emmerson. He would have been an excellent business planner.
The Business Plan is not the business destination.
It is the landmark by which we guide our path to selecting the right weekly, quarterly, annual goals. It's the landmark to keep us from getting lost in a sea of shiny possibilities. It's the landmark that grows in our field of vision that shows us we're getting closer.
Also built into Mr. Emmerson’s timeless observation is succeeding in life is engaging in the necessary activities of survival.
Whether we like them or not.
The planning journey forces us pay attention to the necessary activities of sustaining our business.
Whether we like them or not.
🔹To REALLY pay attention to our numbers.
🔹To have CONSISTENT and SPECIFIC dialogue with the people who power our business daily to understand what's going on.
🔹To be honest in our ASSESSMENTS of progress.
🔹To make choices about what RISKS we’re willing to take.
🔹To look to the world outside and understand the CHANGES happening at scary speeds.
🔹To decide how we should BEST SPEND our money
We’re close to halfway through the year.
Do we have our landmark?
How’s our journey going?
